We’re receiving policy statements from all sorts, of businesses and organization so we thought you might want to know about KittyCorner’s policies in these worrisome times.
First, it’s safe to pet and cuddle with your pets. According to the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, “There is no evidence that dogs or other pets can contract or spread COVID-19.” This is backed up by the CDC, WHO, AVMA , and other national and international organizations.
Second, as of today, the NY State Governor announced that non-essential businesses will have to close. Others require employees to work from home.
Many of you may be doing this already. Animal shelters are exempt because they are considered essential. HOWEVER we aren’t seeing enough publicity about the fact that people can be contagious for days before they ever come down with symptoms. That worries us because, though we have no symptoms ourselves, and have been staying at home, we have no idea whether we could have been exposed, and pass it on to an innocent adopter coming into our home. And Linda, our Director, is not only older, but is a transplant recipient, so is immune suppressed. Double Whammy. As always, we will try to take in cats when we have room.
We want to thank all of our friends for your continuing generosity and patience. We hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy, and washing your paws a lot! Just think of this as a chance to give extra hugs to your kitties.
Stay safe, Deb and Linda. Sammy and Vinny are keeping their paws clean and keeping my spirits up. Vinny has even stepped up as my supervisor while I work from home. 🤣
LOL! What a guy! I’m so glad that you have some expert assistance at home! You guys take care, and thanks so much for checking in!
