Meet Eliana – She’s getting ready for her next step

Hi, Friends!

My name is Eliana. I was left in a cat carrier on KittyCorner’s doorstep along with a note, indicating that I had been living under a tarp in the back yard of an elderly couple, and that I had an injured front leg. The people were worried about me and didn’t know what else to do.

My foster moms at KittyCorner took me in and then got me to the veterinary emergency hospital, where they did x-rays and cleaned up the wound on my paw. They said that it was an old injury but that the leg would eventually have to be amputated. The veterinarian told my foster moms that the leg muscles were injured so I had no feeling in the leg, and that I was injuring it more by dragging the paw. I had a fever and an infection from a wound on my paw; an infection which might have become systemic and eventually killed me if I hadn’t received medical attention!

The doctors put me on antibiotics but were worried about possible neurological damage, so my foster moms took me to Cornell, where I got an MRI, a CT scan and a complete medical workup. The good news is that Cornell found no further neurological damage and said that I was ready to have my amputation so no further damage would be done.

A few weeks ago, I had surgery to remove my useless leg so that I can be spayed and move on with my new cat life!
